James Helliwell
I started my gaming journey with a PS2 and watching my dad play DOOM 3, which horrified me. One day in 2005 (the best year for gaming ever) I rented Shadow of the Colossus which blew my mind and launched me on the path that landed me where I am now. I leapt at the chance to study game development at college (where, in 2015, I learned Flash) and went on to get a BA and MA at Teesside University. Before Fuse I interned at Playtonic Games which taught me a lot and gave me a taste of the industry, though if I wasn’t in games, I’d probably work in an aviation museum. I always loved art and history, walking around galleries and museums is one of my favourite things to do, so of course I love experimental artsy games like Outer Wilds, Return of the Obra Dinn and Baba is You. Puzzle games especially are an obsession that inspires me to think outside the box in the work that I do.
