Fergus Brown

Hello, I’m Fergus. I’ve been working in games for a few years after a short stint as an electronic engineer. I love creating intuitive tools and workflows to help teams create their best work. One day I hope to figure out how games are made! To relax I like to read sci-fi, hang around with my cats and play board games with my friends. I also love playing video games, I mostly find myself playing puzzle games and Resident Evil these days. Recently most of my time has been consumed learning about astronomy and astrophotography. If you ever want to go observing on a clear night give me a shout!

Q

Earliest gaming memory?

Answer
My earliest gaming memory is playing games like Starwing and Mario All-Stars on my uncle’s SNES.

Q

What was the game that triggered you looking at games as a career?

Answer
I don’t think there was any one game that made be start looking at games as a career. After figuring out electronics wasn’t my thing I think the main thing that triggered it was seeing a lot of my friends working in games on some awesome projects and wanting to be part of that too.

Q

What did you study at School or Uni that you feel was valuable for a career in games?

Answer
From electronics engineering at university the most useful thing Iearned was a lot of maths. I don't remember everything I learned but just being aware of what a technique can be used for is very useful when thinking of how to approach problems. I didn't properly do any programming until after University but putting in the time to learn it has undoubtedly been very useful since I am programming almost every day.

I’ve worked on many titles, and I am proud of being part of all of them as they were all fun and a learning opportunity.

Q

If you weren't making games?
