Q

Earliest gaming memory?

Answer
Wizard’s Lair on the ZX Spectrum. I play it on an emulator now and it’s still hard as nails.

Q

What was the game that triggered you looking at games as a career?

Answer
I played Halo (a lot) as an animation student, and was ecstatic when I got to work on the Cinematics for Halo 4: Spartan Ops. That’s when my brain clicked that I should move from prerendered cutscenes and trailers, and be part of a dev team directly.

Q

What did you study at School or Uni that you feel was valuable for a career in games?

Answer
Life Drawing, but not the long poses where you're trying to render all the details and shadows. Those were fun too, but it was the quick warmup sketches that I loved. That's where I started my appreciation for capturing movement and started my path in animation.

Q

Game that has inspired you the most?

Answer
I’ll blame Stardew Valley for encouraging my obsession with growing produce.

Q

What is the first game you worked on?

Answer
The first game trailer I worked on was for Sega Rally E3 announce way back in 2006. So old, I can’t even find it on Youtube.

Q

Games you’re the proudest to have worked on?

Answer
I co-directed the cutscenes for the Enslaved DLC ‘Pigsy’s Perfect 10’ with the talented John Barclay (3d Art) and Gareth Hector (Concept). It was a rapid and intense production, but working with Ninja Theory was an absolute joy and the heart they poured into the story still makes me emotional. The Nitin Sawhney soundtrack was also amazing.

Q

If you weren’t making games?

Answer
If I had discovered my green fingers at a younger age, I’d very happily have my hands in the dirt all day.

Q

Top 3 games of all time?

Answer
So hard to choose... #1 - ChronoTrigger #2 - Halo: Combat Evolved #3 - Project Cars 2 ..are among my most replayed.

Q

Hardest Game Boss?

Answer
It will always be M.Bison, as I throw my hard earned paperboy wage into a greedy coin slot.
