Lead Environment Artist

Andrew Bushell

I love to design and create game environments… Gravitating towards the natural world, I’m particularly passionate about trees and vegetation. Outside of work, I like to make stuff, both digitally and in the practical sense. When I can combine the two… even better! I’m also a keen motorsport enthusiast. I’ve followed F1 for as long as I can remember, and I’m constantly pursuing the race driver fantasy through sim racing or competitive karting.

Q

Earliest gaming memory?

Answer
One of my earliest gaming memories was playing the original 1983 Star Wars arcade game, whilst on a family holiday to Devon.

Q

What was the game that triggered you looking at games as a career?

Answer
Despite being a massive gamer as a kid, the idea of working in games seemed so intangible. I actually credit Jurassic Park as the movie that shaped my professional direction. Inspiring me to pursue a career in VFX / 3D, and ultimately laying the path that lead me here.

Q

What did you study at School or Uni that you feel was valuable for a career in games?

Answer
At university I studied Special Effects. The course ambitiously aimed to encapsulate many aspects of Special Effects prodction for cinema. From CGI to practical 3D modelling, animatronics, stage lighting and audio design. Not only is this where I discovered my passion for digital 3D modelling, it also gave me a huge appreciation for the vast array of skillsets required to make magic happen. Something which is so true in games development.

Answer
Super Mario Bros… Endless design innovation and feel that still holds up even today.
