Environment Artist

Eduardo Rodrigo Sanjuan

Hey! My name is Ed and I'm an Environment Artist. Before joining the industry, I worked in the most varied range of jobs, from outdoors trips instructor to selling cruise holidays in a call center. I am passionate about fantasy and scifi, so LotR is engraved in my soul along with Star Wars and many other amazing stories. Come to me with anything geek and we’ll talk for hours. I’m also in the middle of two DnD campaigns so there’s that. When I’m not creating (or destroying) worlds, I like going to the gym, climbing, playing multiplayer games with my friends and going on hikes. And if I had the cash for it, I would spend my time away from work making swords and woodworking.

_Favourite Game

ak 2. The world, the plot twist in the story from the first one, the fun gameplay… Absolute masterpiece.

_Favourite Book

The Caves of Steel, by Isaac Asimov.

_Currently Learning

Procedural environment generation. And the human flag, but that one is taking its time.

Q

Earliest gaming memory?

Answer
I remember playing Arkanoid with my father on an Atari when I was very little, and it blew my mind.

Q

What was the game that triggered you looking at games as a career?

Answer
I wouldn’t be able to pinpoint one. It would be a combination of seeing my Pokemons evolving for the first time in Pokemon Red, defeating metalheads in Jak2, gliding through Gotham in the Batman Arkham series… I always thought it would be super cool to be the one bringing these awesome experiences to life for other people.

Q

What did you study at School or Uni that you feel was valuable for a career in games?

Answer
I studied computer science since there were no careers in games where I lived at the time. When I realised there was little or nothing that career would help me get into games, I dropped off. Years later, I studied in the university of Youtube and graduated.

Q

Game that inspired you the most?

Answer
Probably Shadow of the Colossus. I remember playing that game when it was released and just not understanding how it was possible that they managed to do that. I completed it 7 times. In a row.

Q

What was the first game you worked on?

Answer
The Devil in Me, by Supermassive Games.

Q

Games you’re the proudest to have worked on?

Answer
Echoes of the End, by Myrkur Games. We were a small team of 40, no outsource or additional help, and I really love the game we made together.

Q

If you weren't making games?

Answer
I would be an outdoors sports instructor. Something in the woods or in the middle of nowhere.

Q

Top 3 games of all time?

Answer
#1 - Jak2 is my favourite #2 - League of Legends (I know…) because of all the good times I had in it #3 - Batman Arkham Knight because… Batman

Q

Hardest game boss?

Answer
The hive mind in Dead Space. The game is great, but the final boss is quite underwhelming.
