I am driven by making things. I’ve always wanted to be a “creative”, and from an early age knew I wanted to make games somehow… Since then it’s always been the chase of creating the next one. Outside of games it’s the standard pastimes… trying to stay healthy, traveling, etc.

Q

Earliest gaming memory?

Answer
It must be playing Duck Hunt / Super Mario Bros in my parents room. I still don’t know why we had an NES as I don’t think my parents were interested in games at all.

Q

What was the game that triggered you looking at games as a career?

Answer
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, I loved the feelings it evoked and wanted to create those feelings for myself.

Q

What did you study at School or Uni that you feel was valuable for a career in games?

Answer
So I paid a boatload of money to get a degree in “Game Art & Design”, but what it really came down to was receiving a great introduction the fundamentals (composition, colour theory, typography, etc). Aside from that, the many school game jams that I participated in left me fairly well prepared to join the industry.

That’s a tough one… So many Nintendo games have left a huge impression on me over the years.
